The Barnes Honing Slide Scale Calculator is a 2-sided tool that addresses real-life production issues in two different ways:

Side one is titled “Effects of Honing Parameter Changes” which is actually a guide to tweaking some honing machine kinematics for optimum pitch determination of cross-hatch patterns, surface speed (in FPM) calculator for various bore diameters. In addition, this section also answers FAQ inquiries concerning the decrease or increase of feed pressures, increase or decrease of reciprocation speeds, as well as effects of changing spindle speeds

Side two combines a “Trouble-Shooting Guide” related to the holistic honing process including processing kinematics, tooling detail and coolant attributes. This type of valuable information is relevant to many fixed-abrasive tooling concepts, including grinding! Our guide features 2 sections, one addresses issues related to conventional abrasive tooling, the other section is relevant to super-abrasive tooling. A “Grit Size Guide” recommendation for processing various materials is also included.
