Honing Tool Bonds

                    Honing Abrasive Technical Considerations

  • Softer Bonds should normally be used with Harder Materials such as steel, chrome, etc…

  • Intermediate bonds used with Cast Iron

  • Harder bonds used with Softer Materials such as Aluminum, Brass, Bronze…..

  • Bonds are made to retain abrasive for a period of time to allow effective use of abrasive content, but not so long that the abrasive becomes dull/ineffective

  • Barnes offers 6 levels of hardness to match performance to production requirements

                          Superabrasive Bonds

                                                                   ›503 VERY SOFT

                                                                   ›002 SOFT

                                                                   ›505 MEDIUM

                                                                   ›509 MEDIUM HARD

                                                                   ›512 HARD

                                                                   ›515 VERY HARD

All super-abrasive bonds are sintered metal to provide the best in abrasive life, thermal conductivity and strength.
